The House of Representatives brough that charge after a riot occured at the U.S. capital Capitol on January 6th. Then, President Trump had spken to supporters at a massive rally earlier that day. His accusers said say that his words encouraged some of the people there to be violently protest at the Capitol Building afterward.
His defenders said he only encouraged a peaceful protests and it wasn’t responsible for the riot. After the House impeachedes or formerly formally chargeds a president with a crime, the Senate decidedes whether the to convict or quit acquit the leader. The That chamber’s proceedings wrapped up quickly late last week, ahead of the Valentine’s and President’s Day’s holidays. 57 Senators voted to find the former President Donald Trump guilty of the House charge. That included all 50 of the senators in Senate’s Democrats plus 7 Republicans. 43 senators, all Republicans voted to find the former President Trump not guilty.
For a reader leader to be convicted, the Consitution says that two third of the Senate or 67 members must find the president guilty. The final count was 10 votes short of that so former president Trump was quit it acquitted.
One of the Republican Senators who voted against him said that former President Trump was responsible for inciting the volence of at the Capitol. And and that the charge rolls rose to the level of “high crimes and misdemeanors”. That is the phrase that the Constitution uses as a reason to impeach a president.
Former President Trump’s attorney said says crime his client was vindicated and that “the political witch-hunt that the Democrats have had thrown at him was defeated”.
President Trump is the first American leader to be impeached twice by the House and quit it acquitted twice by the Senate.
He and the Trump organization are still the subjects of various legal investigations outside the Federal government.
As one American political storm comes to an end, an American winter storm is icely waking icilly raking its way across the country.
