[2021.02.26.Fri] CNN 10 - Meteoric Sighting in Canada

by Namaskara 2021. 2. 26.

It's a perbird. It's a plane. It's a meteor. We are travelling training our eyes around on the sky this Friday on CNN 10.

I am Carl Azuz. Here is what's up.

This week there arewere more than 400 reports of fire in the sky. They are were mostly concentrated in and around Alberta, Canada. But though the meteor is was also visible in other parts of that country and in the U.S. state of MotenaMontana.

Thanks to in large part to surveillance by dorby and doorbell cameras, the American Meteor Society received more than 100 vidoes of this. Distinguished The thing was so bright, it was classified as a fireball. According to NASA that means the rock could be have been bigger than 3 feet in diameter. It was It`s a shocking solarcita celestial sight that looks really cool as long as it doesn't hurt anything and as far as we know, it didn't.

Scientist believe with it was just a meteor not a meteorite. What is the difference? There are a lot of small rocks that are zinging through space. They are called meteoroids. If it's one of the these rocks hit`s the Earth's atmosphere, it becomes a meteor. That is also known as a shooting star.

The straight streaks you see cross across the sky are the results of meteors burning up in our atmosphere.

Researchers say more than 90% of burn up completedcompletely. If they don't do that though, the if part of the rock survived survives its entry smash and smacks into the Earth's surface. It's then classified as a meteorite. Thousands of tiny meteorites strike the Earth every year but as far as we know, the one seen this week in Canada wasn't one of them. It's believed to ban have been a meteor. There haven`t been any fragments reported from the earth`s surface.

Initially, scientists didn't know how big it was, how fast it was moving and what it was made of but they are able to piece together some information about it based on the multitude of different recordings taking taken from different cameras in different locations.
