The first line to commence operation was Seoul's line 1 in 1974. At first, it only ran from Seoul Station to 청량리 Station. But now, it is directly linked to most major rail lines. Measuring 200 kilometers, it has become the longest subway line in Korea. More sections are in the works to be opened in the future.

 

The 분당 metropolitan railway also opened, connecting Seoul and 분당. Recently, the 분당 line has been linked to 청량리 station and all the way to 인천. This means there are more ways to transfer to a different line, and transportation has been made more convenient.
