[2021.03.31.Wed]입이 트이는 영어 Platform Workers

by Namaskara 2021. 3. 31.

[Introduction]

L: What are we talking about right now?

J: General example, I guess, would be delivery people/workers because they get their work through online platforms.

They are not working in employer and employee relationship.

L: like food delivery apps? That is a platform, and if you order food as a consumer or a customer, the platform will pick it up and toss it to a restaurant or a delivery worker.

J: Yes. Even I guess Taxies or designated drivers, for example, whoevers close you by or closest your location may pick it up before anyone else does.

L: so. More and more people are finding work in these related fields because platforms are everywhere. And I am sure you can think of other forms of platform workers.

[Speaking] Talk about platform workers.

As information technology continues to forge ahead, more and more services are being offered by way of digital platforms. The trend has picked up more speed during the COVID-19 situation.

As a result, more and more people are finding work in related fields. Delivery workers and substitute drivers who work through these platform services are called platform-mediated workers, or platform workers. But people in this line of work aren`t covered by the 4 major insurance schemes. Plus, they aren`t protected by labor laws. If they get hurt on the job, they have to pay out of pocket for treatments.

The reality is that policies for flatform workers are still sorely lacking. I hope that their poor working conditions will be improved in the future.
