Pengsoo: The Rude Giant Penguin South Korea Fell in Love with 한국인의 사랑을 받는 맹랑하고 거대한 펭귄, 펭수
An in your face attitude is not usually liked in Korea unless your name is Pengsoo. The penguin has become very popular with millenials in the country. Despite being just 10 years old, Pengsoo tells it like it is. With his gruff voice and sunglasses, the giant penguin has become a national icon. Pengsoo’s parents are the education broadcasting system, EBS. They said the giant penguin set foot in Korea from the Antarctic in search of a fame. And fame he did find. Pengsoo’s EBS Youtube channel, giant Peng TV, has nearly 2 millions of subscribers as the loveable penguin has grabbed the hearts of young adults.

본인의 이름이 펭수가 아니라면 직설적인 태도는 한국에서 보통 좋게 받아들여지지 않는다. 이 펭귄은 국내 밀레니얼세대 사이에 엄청 인기가 많다. 비록 10살 밖에 안됐지만, 펭수는 있는 그대로 얘기한다. 거친 목소리와 큰 선글라스로, 이 거대한 펭귄은 국가적 상징이 되었다. 펭수의 부모는 EBS이다. 이 거대한 펭귄은 유명세를 얻기 위해서 남극에서 한국으로 왔다. 그리고 그 명성을 얻었다. 이 사랑스러운 펭귄은 젊은 성인들의 마음을 사로잡아서 펭수의 유튜브채널 자이언트 펭TV는 구독자 수가 거의 2백만명이다.
Pengsoo doesn’t pull any punches. He doesn’t care if you’re famous or CEO or Janitor . He treats everyone the same. EBS says that’s why people love Pengsoo. There is no hierarchy in the way he talks to people, something that office workers in Korea could only dream of doing. Humility in Korea typically gets you far, but that’s not for Pengsoo. The penguin is a superstar on his own words and Pengsoo could very well be right. The outspoken penguin is tremendously popular with the younger generation who express their approval in won spent. We could be witnessing the birth of a global super star.
