by Namaskara 2021. 5. 27.

[Speaking] Talk about the concept of "아재"

The word "아재" is being used a lot these days. Middle-aged people are also called "아저씨" or "아주머니," but the word "아재" has a certain something. It sounds a bit more affectionate. 아재s often use the phrase "back in my day." The phrase has become a sort of self-deprecating humor.

아재's were once young, too. That youth, which seemed like it would never end, is just a memory now. Back in school, our bookbags were filled with cassette tapes and CD's. We paged each other to plan get-togethers. Sometimes, we had to wait hours on end because we had no way to get in touch when we missed each other.

Back then, we took photos with old-fashioned cameras during school trips, and counted the days until the pictures were developed.

=============================
