[Speaking] Talk about Recent Changes in College Departments.

Colleges in the past were devided into traditional departments, including the liberal arts, social science, natural science, engineering and medicine. But there is an emphasis on convergence education these days. Korean colleges are combining multiple departments so that students can choose to major in new field of expertise.

The Department of International Studies is a good example of this. Core subjects from departments like political science and diplomacy, business administration, social economics and history are combined to be studied in a single department. To cultivate talent for this age of globalization, all classes are held in English.

In the global era, convergence education built on a variety of different studies is considered superior to education focused on just one subject area. I think these are changes for the better, to train talented people appropriate for a globalized era.

 

예전에는 대학교가 인문과학 사회과학 자연과학 공학 및 의학 등의 전통적인 학과 분류되어 있었다. 그러나 요즘 융합교육을 강조하면서 우리나라 대학들도 몇개의 학과를 통합하여 학생들이 새로운 전공분야를 선택할 수 있도록 하고 있다.

국제학부가 그 대표적인 예이다. 정치 외교학, 경영학, 사회경제학, 역사 등 여러 학과의 핵심 전공 과목을 모아서 하나의 학과에서 공부할 수 있도록 만든 학과이다. 국제화 시대의 인재양성을 위해 모든 강의는 영어로 진행된다.

글로벌 시대에 맞춰서, 하나의 교과 영역에 집중된 교육보다는 여러 학문의 다양성을 기초로 한 융합교육이 더 우수한 것으로 여겨진다. 국제화시대에 적합한 인재를 양성할 수 있는 긍정적인 변화라고 생각한다..
