In contrast, electric cars and hydrogen fuel cell cars get their power exclusively from electic motors. They are eco-friendly cars in the truest sense since they emit no carbon dioxide at all. Electricity for electric car motors comes from a battery. A hydrogen fuel cell car derives energy from a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen.

친환경 자동차에 대한 사람들의 관심이 늘어나고 있다. 대략적으로 말하면, 친환경 자동차는 하이브리드차, 전기차, 수소연료전지차로 구분된다. 하이브리드차는 기존 내연기관 엔진에 모터가 추가된 형태이다. 그 모터가 동력을 공급하는데 보조역할을 한다. 연비는 좋아지겠지만, 내연기관을 계속 사용하기 때문에 진정한/완전한 친환경자동차는 아니다. 어떤 면에서, 미래차를 향한 가교역할을 한다고 볼 수 있다.
